Castello Monreale di Sardara

“A guardian in the heart of the Medio Campidano region, it served not only as a military fortress but also as a royal residence, playing a prominent role in southern Sardinia during the Judicate era. Frequently passing between different rulers and contested by the Aragonese and Catalans, it was indissolubily linked to the fate of the Judges of Arborea. Together with the Castle of Marmilla (Las Plassas) and the Castle of Mount Arcuentu (Arbus), it formed the southern defensive line of the Judicate. Built to monitor the transit routes between the north and south of the Island, it functioned as both a military stronghold and a royal court.”
